Tectonic Contingencies

2020
Exhibited at Drawing Im/Proper exhibition, University of Colorado Denver

This pair of drawings, adapted from our Arbor project for the City of Palo Alto, explores two alternative readings of part-whole relationships within the work. The first dutifully explains the project’s logics of fabrication and assembly, explaining how the 143 parts come together into a single structure. The second is a more mischievous drawing of the project’s conceptual parts, the latent geometries that construct the global form of the installation, as well as the local deformations on each of its structural ribs. By speaking to the multiple layers of data that inform the project, the drawings question conventions of legibility and fidelity in architectural representation.
