On February 18, Adam Marcus joined collaborator Andrew Kudless of Matsys at Penn State’s Stuckeman School for the opening of Hatchwork: An Archaeology of Generative Drawing. The exhibition draws from an archive of procedural drawings and architectural ideations developed by Marcus and Kudless over fifteen years of experimentation with generative methods of design and graphic representation. The 1,000 drawings in the show include computational sketches and prototypes that explore techniques for leveraging computational design tools to produce novel architectural diagrams, drawings, and modes of representation. Marcus’s 500 drawings include new work from the Procedural Form project. At the opening, Marcus and Kudless delivered a lecture as part of the school’s spring lecture series, discussing the premise of the exhibition and the duo’s recent publication, Drawing Codes: Experimental Protocols of Architectural Representation.
